~CALVARY'S MIRACULOUS EVENTS~

"Jesus again gave a loud cry and breathed his last breath. Then the curtain hanging in the
Temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split apart,
the graves broke open, and many of God's people who had died were raised to life.
They left the graves, and after Jesus rose from death, they went into the Holy City,
where many people saw them. When the army officer and the soldiers with him who
were watching Jesus saw the earthquake and everything else that happened,
they were terrified and said, He really was the Son of God. "
........Matthew 27: 50: 54
************ ********* ********* **
Many miraculous events took place on the day Jesus died for our sins at Calvary.
I wonder if we had been in the crowd,  would we have recognized Jesus as the Son of
God?   Mary's Son became her Savior that day as He hung on the cross and also the
Savior for all of the world who will receive Him by faith.  We were not
there that day, but all of our sins where there when our Lord was crucified.

Our Lord  looked ahead in  time and saw us when He hung on the cross.  He
saw us clothed in garments as white as the snow because of His crimson
blood which flowed that day as a cleansing stream for sin.  He saw a lost world,
our lost loved ones,  and willingly died for them that day.  Our prayer
is for them to see Jesus as their Savior and Lord .  He  saw them and
did not come to condemn,  but to  pay the price to save and set them free.

The darkness on that day which filled the whole earth for three hours was a
sign from God of the darkest day the world would ever know,  but one which would
bring forth new light and hope for all.  Sunday was coming and Jesus was the
resurrection and life who would rise again.  Jesus took the curse of sin that day that
we might be free and blessed.

The splitting of the veil or curtain which separated the Holy of Holies from the Holy
Place and outer court was also a miracle from God. The curtain was split from top to
bottom and not from bottom to the top.  This showed it was an act of God from above
and one which symbolized the barrier between God and  people was now removed.

There was no longer any need for an earthly priest to enter into the Holy of
Holies on the annual Day of Atonement as Christ had been the living  sacrifice
and atonement for our sins.  His sacrifice took away the guilt of sin as well
as sin itself, and did not have to be repeated year after year as with the earthly
priests who ministered for the people.  There is only one High Priest who
was worthy and who is our Great Intercessor between God and man.

The earthquake was also a sign from God as well as some  rising from their tombs
after the death of Jesus.  Only by the power of God could these events take place.
Everyone in that day knew something significant had taken place but those whose
hearts were receptive knew truly this was the Son of God.   Even the soldiers were
frightened by all the events but did not recognize Jesus as the Son of God until
they had crucified Him.   The greatest miracle of all took place on the
day Jesus laid down his life and died for our sins.  God's ways are not our
ways nor his thoughts our thoughts .  Who would think of sacrificing
the innocent one they loved that those guilty might go free?  Only a
God of love and power could have a plan for man to be restored and
a way to be justified in God's sight to be made worthy.

Many today still do not recognize the Messiah or receive His finished work at Calvary.
Many still mock and scorn those who follow the Messiah not realizing they seal
their own fate by their actions and words.   On that day when Jesus hung his head,
said "it is finished" and died, the perfect sacrifice of God was received that we
might go free.   May our prayer be for lost souls to recognize their only hope is
found in the Savior.  May they open their hearts to His love and let the Son of
God be their Lord and Savior.

We give thanks for our Lord who was the "one perfect Lamb of God"
who takes away the sins of the world.   New life and hope is found in
our Lord and Savior who forever lives to make intercession as our
Great High Priest.  He is worthy of all our praise and glory.

The miracle of the cross still remains today for only the power of the
shed blood of Jesus can save a soul and make them a new creature in Christ.
We give praise to our risen Lord and Savior  who is King of all Kings
and Lord of all Lords! He is the wonder who forever lives
 in our hearts.
